BAPTISM

Take the next step in your faith journey this Fall 2024

Baptism registration is CLOSED. Check back for Spring dates soon!

We practice and teach that once an individual becomes a believer and a disciple of Christ, he or she should be baptized. Water baptism is a visual and symbolic demonstration that a person’s former way of life has been put to death, and vividly depicts that he or she is a new creation in Christ. Children over the age of 10 may participate in baptism at any campus. More information is available in our Baptism Explanation and Frequently Asked Questions document for any questions you may have or further clarification.

Why Should I Film My Video Testimony?

We believe that there is POWER in our testimonies! One of our favorite parts of baptism at Red Rocks Church is hearing the life-changing stories of people coming to know God, or coming back to a relationship with Him, through video testimonies in the baptism service. When you register for baptism, you can choose to share your testimony on video during a filming day prior to baptism. This video will be yours to keep and share with your family and friends, and may also be used in our baptism services! Your testimony videos are truly the heart of the baptism services and vividly show the ways that God moves in and through the broken and messy seasons of our lives. We hope that you will consider sharing your story with us!

What is Baptism?

Baptism is a visual and symbolic demonstration of a person’s union with Christ in the likeness of His death and resurrection. It is an outward sign of an inward change; it signifies that our former way of life is put to death and that a new life has begun because of what Jesus did on the cross. As we enter into the waters, we are reminded that Christ was crucified and raised from the dead and that we too have died to the old self in order to live for Christ. It is a powerful reminder of God’s goodness and grace, while serving as a step of obedience to follow Jesus’ example.

Baptism Basics

at Red Rocks Church

If you’re interested in being baptized, here are a few things to know:

  • At Red Rocks, we celebrate baptism during the weekend services typically twice a year.
  • Baptism is open to anyone 10 years old and up who has made the decision to follow Jesus. Instead of infant/child baptism, we invite families to be part of Child Dedication which also happens twice a year.
  • We understand that choosing to be baptized is a big deal! Our team will partner with you, make sure you know the ins and outs of what to bring with you, and help make baptism a reality if you have any mobility concerns or special circumstances. Once you complete your registration you will receive more information on next steps and information regarding the option to share your testimony on video prior to your baptism.
  • Part of what sets our baptism services apart is hearing the life-changing stories of people coming to know God, or coming back to a relationship with Him, through video testimonies in the baptism service. Baptism FAQs

Can I choose the service I’m baptized in?

Yes! You will select your service when you register. If this changes after you submit your form, please email infoaustin@redrockschurch.com.

Note: Video testimony spots are limited and are first come first serve. Please note – if you film a Baptism Video there is a chance you will get moved to a different service if we decide to highlight your video in services. Because we need an even number of videos at our services, this may affect the service time you choose in your initial registration.

I have a set of circumstances that makes baptism challenging for me (for instance an injury, disability, or other element), am I able to be baptized?

Yes, yes, yesss! We will work with you to make baptism a great experience. We have worked with individuals to help them transfer from their wheelchair to the tub/pool, provided people with extra time to get into the water due to an injury, and we have sprinkled individuals with water if getting into the tub is simply not an option. We’ve also had individuals with arm or leg injuries, ankle-monitors, and other situations so when you complete your baptism registration, simply tell us your situation and we will make note of it for the baptism weekend!

Who will I be baptized by during the service?

The person who baptizes you will be a member of our staff. If you have someone who is close to you that you would like to be baptized by (a friend, parent, Group leader, mentor, etc) that is wonderful too! This individual simply accompanies you to the tub/pool on the day of baptism, gets into the water with you, and you are good to go; no need to let us know ahead of time!

I was baptized as a baby (or as a child) when it wasn’t my choice, can I be baptized again?

Yes! We have many people in our church who were baptized before they fully understood the choice they were making, and who elect to be baptized now, as a sign of their commitment to following Christ. Being baptized as an adult does not minimize the decision made by your loved ones when you were small, but instead marks your desire to publicly proclaim your faith as an adult.

I am nervous about baptism, what should I do?

We understand that baptism can cause nerves! Our team is here to support you, pray with you, and encourage you throughout this process. If you are nervous to be baptized, know that you are in good company (many, many, people are anxious as they sign up for this milestone) but that there is no greater feeling than publicly professing your faith in Jesus, and marking your commitment to Him in this way!

Do you baptize infants or young children?

We do not baptize infants here at Red Rocks Church. We believe that children should be at an age when they can make a decision for themselves to follow Christ and be baptized. For infants and young children, we embrace the tradition of child dedication which flows directly from Hannah’s (the Prophet Samuel’s mother) decision to dedicate her son back to God.

What if I’m out of town or I can’t make it to this next Baptism?

We would LOVE for you to be part of our baptism weekend, but we understand if you are unable to be here! We will have other opportunities to be baptized in the future if you prefer to wait and be part of a Red Rocks Church Baptism Weekend. If you do not want to wait, we completely understand, and you can have a friend or family member baptize you at a time that works well for your schedule. We believe that anyone who believes that Jesus is the son of God and the one way to Heaven can baptize you – whether it be in a friend’s pool, in a creek nearby, or in the ocean!
